Who is ALWS?

ALWS (Australian Lutheran World Service) is an overseas aid and development organisation accredited by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Since 1950, generous Australians have been reaching out through ALWS to provide care and support to the most vulnerable. We provide practical support to communities facing poverty and crisis around the world, providing clean water, education, food, and emergency assistance to children and families.

In 2025, we’re celebrating 75 years of service, by supporting 75,000 children to access the essentials for a happy, healthy life – food, school and safety. We invite you to partner with us to make sure children have nutritious food to grow up strong, schooling so they are free to flourish and safety in families independent and hopeful for the future.

ALWS is an agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand. We are a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), a compliant signatory to ACFID’s Code of Conduct and registered with the ACNC.

What is ALWS Walk My Way?

ALWS Walk My Way gives you the chance to step out with friends and family in a walking challenge so that children in some of the poorest countries in the world can access a better future.

Your participation in an ALWS Walk My Way event reminds the Australian community of the challenges of poverty and conflict that children face daily… and your fundraising efforts provide practical supports that change lives. Thank you!

In 2025, ALWS Walk My Way Walk aims to support 75,000 vulnerable children, impacted by poverty and war, to access the essentials for a happy, healthy life – food, school and safety. Funds raised will support vulnerable children impacted by poverty and war – Somalia, South Sudan, Kenya, Burundi, Bangladesh, Nepal and Ukraine.

Every $25 raised can change the future for a vulnerable child.

For example:

  • $25 can provide a school kit for a refugee child in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya.
  • $25 can provide 5kg of maize seeds to four families in Burundi so they can provide food for their children.
  • $25 can provide a hygiene kit for a young child in South Sudan.
  • $25 can provide clean drinking water for a month for a child impacted by war in Ukraine.
  • $25 can provide emergency food assistance for school children in Bangladesh.
  • $25 can provide school kits for children affected by floods in Nepal.
  • $25 can provide one month’s porridge ration for a family in Somalia.

Your support is delivered to the frontline through ALWS’ local partners like our LWF team (Lutheran World Federation) and the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

Let’s step out so children can step Up!
